My friend and hero George Mann — musical partner to the late, great folksinger, activist, and “friend to all save the ruling class” Julius Margolin, who left us last August at the age of 93 — has wonderful event news to share:

Hello Friends in the DC area: It is that time of year, and I am so happy to be heading to Charlie and Marilyn Bernhardt’s house!

Details below on the Saturday night concert. But first, new music: Check out the new CD:
It will be released next week to DJs, etc. but you can hear a little of it here! And this website for the Veterans CD compilation “Until You Come Home“. Both these albums have kept me very busy over the winter, and it is good that Julius was a part of both of them also. I’ll be singing plenty of songs from both CDs at the Bernhardt residence.

Here’s the info on this show:

Saturday, May 8 at 7 PM in Laurel, MD — George’s annual trek to the “Soup and Song” concert series hosted by Charlie and Marilyn Bernhardt. This wonderful couple has offered their home to folksingers and lovers of folk music for about six years now and it is with great appreciation that George will be doing this show, without Julius. Soup and snacks at 7 PM, concert at 8 PM. Suggested admission $10, all welcome. For info, email Charlie.

We’ll have the new George Mann on the playlist next week. Re: the concert, don’t miss it!

Forget Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson, who apparently made separate pacts with Satan: Haitians are good people who live in, as CBS describes the island nation, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. They are our brothers and sisters and they are in crisis: The American Red Cross estimates that 50,000 people may be dead as a result of the 7.0 quake that hit Tuesday near Port au Prince. We MUST help them — that is what family does.

How to help (info gathered by WJZ-TV Baltimore):

If you would like to help with the recovery effort in Haiti, there are dozens of organizations accepting donations to help get aid directly to the people. Here is some detail about a handful of such groups, followed by links to other sources.
